History of the Badminton World Federation (BWF)
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) was established on 5 July 1934 in the historic city of Guildford, England. At that time, only 9 countries participated and formed the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) as the governing body.
In 1981, the organization’s name was changed to Badminton World Federation (BWF). By 1984, BWF became a completely independent organization.
Since 1977, BWF has organized the first Badminton World Championship in Malmö, Sweden. After that, this tournament was held every 2 years and became the biggest sporting event in the world of badminton.
BWF not only manages the tournaments but is also responsible for training coaches, referees, and developing badminton worldwide. Currently, BWF has more than 170 participating countries and territories, becoming one of the largest sports organizations in the world.

Major Tournaments Organized by BWF

World Championships. This is an annual tournament held to find the world champion in singles, doubles, and team events. This tournament has been held since 1977 and takes place in August.
